Servers and the crowd

One server

A full street, never a crowd you can't see

A server holds 64 players, and you see every one of them. It fills its first 56 seats by itself and keeps the rest for the people who should get in.

The plate: who's playing

On foot, at the wheel, in the air and indoors, the top row shows how many are on Stonktower right now. Click it, or press O, for the servers.

Everyone on Stonktower right now, and under it how many of them are on the city's streets; on the right, your connection to the server.
  • Online: everyone on Stonktower right now, wherever they are: the city, the casino, their tower or the Exchange. In the city: how many of them are on the streets, across every server.
  • The server list (click the plate, or O): each server as Server 3 · 58/64 (its number, then how many are in it out of how many it holds) with its people meter (five little figures, lit as it fills, with a word for it), and who's in yours.
  • Your ping: bars and the round trip in milliseconds. Green is good (under 90), gold is fair, red is slow. Click it (or press U) for the network panel: it says in words whether lag is your device, your connection, the route to the game or the server, and Copy report puts the last ten minutes on your clipboard to send us.
  • Just arrived (or switched): a line under the plate says which server you're in.

The server list

Every server that's open, how many are in it out of how many it holds, how lively it is, which of your friends are in it, and one button each. The street carries on underneath it.

  • Yours first, marked You're here, with Who's here under it: you, your friends (starred, click one to track them), then everyone else and what they're doing.
  • Your friends' servers next, with their faces and names.
  • Then the busiest you can walk into, then the full ones with their queues and a rough wait.
  • With lots of servers open, filters (All, Friends, Open seats) and a search by number or a friend's name appear.

Before you go in, the map's Servers button opens the same list: each row is a way in.

Walking in

Where you land

You never have to pick. Going in from the map, the city places you, in this order:

  1. 01Back where you were

Left a few minutes ago, or popped into the casino? You go back to the same server and the same crew.
  2. 02With your friends

Where most of your friends are, while it has a seat.
  3. 03The liveliest

Otherwise the fullest server with an open seat, so streets stay busy.
  4. 04A fresh one

Only when every server is full does a new one open, and newcomers fill it first.

Moving

Switching, and the queue

Press Switch on a row with room. A full server has a queue: join it and carry on playing where you are.

  1. 01Switch

Switching is leaving this server. If you're in the middle of something (a race, a run, a chase), the game asks first and says what it ends.
  2. 02Or join its queue

Your place and a rough wait stay on screen. Friends of someone inside go first.
  3. 03Your seat is ready

A bell, and the server holds the seat for about 45 seconds. Press Y or Take seat.

Together

Getting into your friends' server

  • The Friends app: a friend in another server has Join beside their name: straight in when there's a seat, their queue when there isn't.
  • The map: friends in another server still show, faded, with that server's name; their card has the way in.
  • The list: their faces are on their server's row.

The last seats of every server are kept so a of someone inside can still get in.
