Street races

Set up a race from where you stand, put up an entry, and race whoever joins through the city's real streets and its real traffic. First across the line takes the pot.

  • Up to 8 racers
  • Your own car
  • On a computer

Race day

From the lobby to the payout

Nobody drives to the start: when the race is called, the city puts every racer's car on the grid.

Setting one up

Your race, from where you stand

  1. 01Open Races

Open the Races app on your phone while you walk the city, or the Races panel on the map. Open races show as pins on the map too.
  2. 02Pick a route

The city plans routes from the junction nearest you, from its own streets as they are today. Each shows its length, its corners and how hard it drives.
  3. 03Set the entry

0 for a fun race, or a paid one from $0.10 to $250. Everyone pays the same entry; yours is held as you set it up.

Joining

Getting everyone to the start

Waiting for people is the hard part of any race. The countdown handles it.

Countdown45 secondsstarts when the second racer joins
A late join+15 secondsalways left on the clock for whoever joins next
Never more than2 minutesof countdown in all
Nobody comes5 minutesalone in the lobby, then your entry comes back
  • Be in the city to join: walking the streets, in the race's server.
  • Pick your car from your garage in the lobby, and tick Ready. Everyone sees what everyone drives. When everyone is ready the call comes within seconds; the one who set it up can start it any time with two or more in.
  • At the call every racer in the city is put on the grid in their car. Anyone not there gets their entry back.

The pot

Entries in, prizes out

The entries make the pot. When the race pays out, the city takes its cut of 10% and the rest is the prize pool, split by the size of the field.

  • Checkpoints sit at every corner and along the straights; the next one is marked on the road, on the map and ahead of you. The leader is crowned for everyone to see.
  • A race runs at most 10 minutes from lights out. You race one at a time, in your own car, and keep it from the grid to the line.
  • The police leave racers alone, and so do the fighter jet's rockets: a stake is on it.
